ABOUT ME
I think forests and water
Anand Nainar obtained a Ph.D in Environmental Science (Forest Hydrology) from the Universiti Malaysia Sabah funded by the Royal Society of London and South East Asia Rainforest Research Programme.
He has done research on the impacts of land-use modification i.e forests (primary, various degree of logging, regenerated) and agriculture (especially oil palm) on water resources, stormwater dynamics and erosion-related issues in the humid tropics. He has also been studying forest management and tree-water relationships (ecohydrology) in temperate zones to produce applicable policies to improve water resource. Other interests include renewable energy, landscape, history and mythology.

Throughout the course of his Ph.D journey, he has worked as a Lead Researcher in the SAFE Project, Borneo, where he conducted scientific research and managed the hydrology research team. Between 2012 to 2014, he was appointed honorary research associate in Swansea University where he conducted hydrological research. Aside from research works, he has lead students, scientists and government officials in field training in Borneo, Europe and Japan. He is an accredited ESD Engineer/Green Building Consultant (GreenRE AP, MyCREST QP) and is attached to BSD Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. (Kuala Lumpur).

At present, Anand is based in the Faculty of Tropical Forestry, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. He currently does forestry, agricultural and hydrological research and is supervising students and PhD candidates. As population growth puts a tremendous pressure on land, water, and natural resources, Anand aims to produce knowledge that can be translated into real-world applications to conserve the natural environment.
